Hanged Man (2016)

사진이 원본을 닮듯, 나는 나의 아버지를, 나의 아들은 나를 닮았다. 이러한 닮음의 공고한 체제 아래 복사물이 원본에게서 물려받은 유전적 형질의 촘촘한 그물에서 벗어나 독립된 개체로서 인정받기란 어려운 일이다. 닮음의 대상인 원본을 소멸시켜 단단하게 연결된 재현의 고리를 끊어낸다면 이 고착된 체제를 무너뜨릴 수 있지 않을까? 거꾸로 몸을 뒤집어 ‘목이 매달린 모습’을 흉내 내려는 나의 우스꽝스러운 사진적 자살시도는 놀이터에 잠재된 유아기의 환상처럼 비현실적이며 무력하다.

In a similar manner to how a photograph resembles the original, I resemble my father, and my son resembles me. Within this comprehensive system of resemblance, it can be challenging for a reproduction to break free from the intricate network of genetic traits and achieve originality. I wonder if, in the absence of the original, this system might collapse due to the disrupted cycle of representation. As strange as it may sound, my attempts at simulating death through photography, such as mimicking the posture of a hanged man while remaining motionless and hanging upside down, prove to be both unreal and powerless, much like childhood fantasies ingrained in playgrounds.
